Abstract:Based on the analysis of exponential growth algorithm prescribed in IEEE 820.16e, a novel Hybrid Growth Algorithm (HGA) of sleep window was proposed to reduce the Average Energy Consumption (AEC) and the Average Waiting Time (AWT) of receiving the data frames of the Mobile Station (MS). The proposed algorithm promoted the comprehensive energy saving performances of MS by changing the growth rate of sleep window. The good performances of the proposed algorithm was validated via comparative analysis and experimental simulation, then the effects of the parameters in sleep mode on the algorithm were studied, which was helpful to the choice of the parameters value. The experimental results indicate that by means of HGA, the average waiting time is greatly reduced while a better energy saving character is obtained. Especially when the arrival rate is small, compared with exponential-growth algorithm, the average energy consumption of HGA is reduced by 15% to 20%, with the average waiting time by 50% to 70%.
